Festival season brings the year’s heaviest phone promotion in Nepal, and some of it is genuine. Here is how to judge Dashain phone offers properly, and what the bundles are actually worth.
Track the price before the offer
This is the whole method, and it takes two minutes a week.
Note the price of the phone you want three or four weeks before the festival. Then compare when the offer appears.
A genuine discount shows a real reduction from the established price. A marked-up “discount” raises the price shortly before the sale and advertises the reduction from the inflated figure.
Without a before-price, you cannot tell the difference — and that is precisely what the marketing relies on.
How to value a bundle
Festival offers frequently bundle accessories, data packs, extended warranty or discount vouchers.
Count only what you would have bought anyway.
- A free case and screen protector — genuine value, since our protection guide says you need both
- A free power bank — useful, if it is a genuine unit from a real brand
- A data pack — real value if you would have bought one
- Extended warranty — genuinely valuable, but read what it excludes, as our insurance guide covers
- A discount voucher for a future purchase — usually worth little
- Accessories you will not use — worth nothing, regardless of the stated value
“Up to NPR X in benefits” is the sum of every component at its claimed retail value. If you were never going to buy the smartwatch, the smartwatch discount is not money in your pocket.
EMI offers — read the terms
Festival EMI offers can be genuinely good or expensive.
Get four numbers in writing, exactly as our bike loan guide recommends for vehicles:
- The interest rate — is it genuinely zero, or is interest built into the price?
- Any processing fee
- The penal rate for late payment
- The total amount repayable
A true zero-interest EMI on a phone at its normal price is a good deal. An EMI on a phone priced above its normal level is not, regardless of the stated rate.
Compare the total repayable against the cash price. That single comparison settles it.
Exchange offers
Compare against the actual used market.

Ask how the valuation is done, and get the figure before committing to the purchase.
What does not change during festivals
These stay the same regardless of the offer:

- The warranty bill, with the seller’s stamp
- The right variant — confirm RAM and storage; offers often apply to one configuration only

A discounted phone you cannot get repaired is not a bargain.
Should you wait for a festival?
If you need a phone now, buy it now. Waiting weeks for an uncertain discount on a phone you need is a poor trade.
If your purchase is flexible, festival season is genuinely a reasonable time to buy — competition is real and some discounts are substantial.
