Mobile Warranty in Nepal: What Each Brand Covers

Updated August 2026. Confirm exact terms on your own warranty card — brand policies change.

Most Nepali phone buyers discover what their warranty covers on the day they need it, which is the worst possible time. Here is what mobile warranty in Nepal actually means, before you need it.

What warranty covers — and what it never does

Covered Not covered
Manufacturing defects Screen cracks from drops
Component failure in normal use Liquid damage
Software faults from the factory Physical damage of any kind
Battery failure (within terms) Unauthorised repairs
Charging port failures (not from misuse) Normal battery degradation

The single most misunderstood point: a cracked screen is never a warranty claim on any brand. It is the most common phone damage in Nepal and the least covered. If that worries you, look at screen protection plans — they are a separate product.

Brand-by-brand in Nepal

Samsung — standard one-year, with the widest authorised service network in the country. The practical advantage is reach: service centres exist in places other brands do not serve, which matters if you live outside the valley.

Xiaomi / Redmi / Poco — one year standard, with two-year warranties on selected models (the Redmi A5 is a current example). Xiaomi’s authorised network is broad. Always confirm which term applies to your specific model — it is printed on the box, not implied by the brand.

Realme / Oppo / Vivo — one year standard, decent city coverage, thinner in remote districts. Verify your nearest centre before buying.

OnePlus — one year; the network is thinner, which is the brand’s main practical weakness at flagship prices.

Apple — one year through authorised service partners. Repairs are expensive and parts can take time; buy official or you have nothing.

Honor — one year, with some models bundling free breakage insurance — genuinely valuable given that screen damage is the most common failure. Check whether your model includes it.

The exclusions that catch people out

  1. Unauthorised repair voids everything. One visit to a local shop for a cheap screen fix ends the warranty on the whole device. If it is under warranty, use the authorised centre even when it is slower.
  2. Liquid damage indicators. Phones contain moisture indicators; if they have triggered, the claim ends regardless of the reported fault.
  3. Battery degradation is normal wear. Capacity loss over time is not a defect. Sudden failure may be.
  4. Grey-market units have no warranty at all — see our official vs grey guide. This is the exclusion that costs Nepali buyers the most money.

How to claim, properly

  1. Keep the bill. Photograph it and store it in your email the day you buy. Bills fade and get lost; the photo does not.
  2. Back up first. Service may reset or replace the device.
  3. Go to an authorised centre, not a general repair shop.
  4. Get a job sheet with the reported fault and expected timeline in writing.
  5. Ask about loaner or timeline if the phone is essential to your work.
  6. If a claim is refused, ask for the reason in writing — that document is what escalates a dispute.

Practical protection beyond warranty

  • A case and tempered glass from day one. This prevents the damage warranty never covers, for a few hundred rupees.
  • Screen insurance where offered — Honor’s bundled breakage cover and similar schemes are worth checking.
  • Buy official. It is the only way any of the above applies.

Frequently asked questions

How long is mobile warranty in Nepal? Standard is one year on most brands, with selected Xiaomi/Redmi models offering two years. Confirm your model’s specific term on the box and bill.

Is a cracked screen covered by warranty? No — on any brand. Physical damage is excluded universally. Consider a screen protection plan if that risk concerns you.

Does warranty cover water damage? No. Even IP-rated phones exclude liquid damage from warranty; the rating describes resistance, not coverage.

What if I bought a grey-market phone? There is no Nepali warranty on grey units, and authorised centres will decline service. This is the most expensive consequence of the grey discount.

Can I claim warranty in a different city? Yes, at any authorised service centre for that brand — one reason Samsung’s and Xiaomi’s network breadth is worth real money.

The bottom line

Mobile warranty in Nepal means one year (sometimes two) against manufacturing defects — never against drops, water or your own repair shop. Photograph the bill on day one, use authorised centres only, protect the screen yourself, and buy official, because every word above applies only to phones that were.
