EV Service Network in Nepal: What to Verify

Updated August 2026. Service networks change as brands expand or withdraw — verify current coverage directly with dealers before purchase.

An electric vehicle you cannot get serviced is a very expensive problem. EV service in Nepal varies enormously between brands, and this should shape your shortlist before you compare a single specification.

Why this outranks everything else

EVs need less servicing but more specialised servicing.

As our maintenance cost guide covers, there is no oil, no filters, no spark plugs and no clutch — genuinely less to do. But what remains requires:

  • Trained technicians with high-voltage safety qualifications
  • Specific diagnostic equipment
  • Manufacturer software access
  • Parts that are often imported to order

A general mechanic cannot service an EV the way they can service a petrol vehicle. This is the whole difference, and it is why brand choice matters more than for a conventional car.

The seven questions to ask before buying

Take these to the dealer and get written answers:

1. Where exactly can this vehicle be serviced? Not “we have a national network” — actual addresses. Kathmandu only, or your district too?

2. Are the technicians at that location trained on this specific vehicle? Selling a vehicle and servicing it are different capabilities.

3. What parts are stocked in Nepal, and what is imported to order? Ask about the common ones: brake components, suspension, 12V battery, cabin filter, charging cable.

4. What is the typical lead time for an imported part?

5. Who handles battery diagnostics and repair? Can modules be replaced individually, or only the full pack? Module-level repair is dramatically cheaper where supported — our battery replacement guide covers why this question matters.

6. What happens if the vehicle needs recovery from outside the Valley? Not every workshop can receive an EV.

7. How long has this brand been operating in Nepal, and how many units are on the road here?

Question 7 is the one that predicts the others. A brand with volume has parts, trained staff and a reason to stay.

The brand-stability question

A warranty is a promise from a company. That company must still exist to honour it.

This is the single largest risk with lower-priced, lower-volume EV brands in Nepal. As our battery warranty guide notes, an eight-year battery warranty is worthless if the manufacturer withdraws from the market in year three.

An orphaned EV with a degraded battery and no parts supply is effectively a total loss.

This is what the price premium of an established brand buys, and it is a rational thing to pay for.

The geography question

If you live outside Kathmandu, this narrows your list substantially.

Ask specifically:

  • Is there a service point in your district or province?
  • If not, what is the nearest, and how would the vehicle get there?
  • Does the brand offer recovery?

For electric scooters the same applies, and arguably more urgently — a scooter is often someone’s only transport, and a week off the road is a serious problem.

What to do if service is thin where you live

Realistic options:

  1. Choose a brand with presence in your area, even at a specification or price disadvantage. This is usually the right call.
  2. Accept travelling to Kathmandu or a regional centre for service, and factor that into your decision
  3. Buy petrol or hybrid instead — a hybrid needs no charging infrastructure and is serviced by a broader network

Option 3 deserves honest consideration. Our EV vs hybrid guide covers when a hybrid is the better answer, and thin local EV service is one of the clearest cases.

Frequently asked questions

Which EV brands have service networks in Nepal? It varies and changes. Ask each dealer for actual service addresses and verify them rather than accepting a general claim of national coverage.

Why does EV service capability matter more than for petrol cars? EVs require trained high-voltage technicians, specific diagnostic equipment and manufacturer software. A general mechanic cannot substitute.

What is the biggest risk with a lower-volume EV brand? That the brand withdraws from Nepal, leaving you with no parts, no service and an unenforceable battery warranty.

What should I ask the dealer? Actual service addresses, technician training, which parts are stocked locally, import lead times, and how long the brand has operated here.

What if there is no EV service near me? Choose a brand that does have local presence, or consider a hybrid — which needs no charging infrastructure and has broader service coverage.

The bottom line

EV service in Nepal should decide your shortlist before any specification does. Ask for actual service addresses, find out which parts are stocked here, and check how long the brand has operated in Nepal — because a warranty is only as good as the company standing behind it. If nothing serviceable exists near you, a hybrid is the honest alternative.
